What is the meaning of darknet?

Dark Nets refer to networks that are not indexed by search engines such as Google, Yahoo, or Bing. These networks are available only to a specific group or person, not for general internet users and accessible only through approvals, specific software and configurations. This includes academic databases and corporate sites as well as neutral places with black market, fetish community and Sharia issues such as hacking and piracy.

Dark over the internet is an overlay network which can be accessed only by special software, configuration and special approvals and often uses non-standard communication protocols to make it deliberately accessible by the Internet.

The term was originally referred to in computer companies in the 1970s, which was detached from the ARPANET for security reasons. These dunks were able to communicate with ARPANET but were accessible and invisible in network listings and ignored ping and other regular searches.

This word was popularized in 2002 after the publication of The Darknet and the Future of Content Distribution. In this paper, four Microsoft employees (Biddle, England, Pianondo and Willman) argue that the presence of darkness is the primary barrier to the development of proactive DRM technology due to the expectation of inevitable copyright infringement.

In popular culture, the meaning of darkness becomes synonymous with the dark web, that part of the Internet can not usually be visited with run-of-the-mill web browsers; It's like a special browser like TOR, FineNet or Ipp. The sites here are not indexed by search engines because they are simply not accessible to them. For example, the academic database is available only for faculty and students, and corporate networks are available only for employees.
